MATRON OF HONOR
I met Jen through mutual friends when I moved back during junior year in high school. My first impression of her was that she was a cute and friendly girl with the biggest adorable puppy dog eyes. It must have been the puppy dog eyes and my extreme love for dogs, because for some reason, we just clicked right away. After many deep conversations over our Verde/Tap Ex/boba hangouts, she quickly became one of my best friends. She is extremely good at keeping in touch with people and is the glue for our circle of friends. Not to mention, she is the greatest historian known to man kind. She takes pictures of everything, and through the years, have conditioned me to not touch any food that arrives at the table until after she is done taking pictures. Note to self, never anger her, because she has some very incriminating pictures of me. Through our many adventures together, I have learned so much and grown from her. She doesn’t call herself travelsoong for nothing. She is the most outgoing, independent, organized, confident and fearless friend I have. Because of her, I have experienced lots of new and exciting things, as well as faced a couple of my fears. Not only have I met many random people in our travels, I have also eaten a worm in the amazon rainforest, and had brunch at one of the most hilarious/interesting brunch spots I have ever been to in Denver. If you ever need tips on places to travel to, talk to Jen and she will have a lot of suggestions.
Steven "best rugged man" Nguyen
My biological brother, he is the toughest and funniest person that I know. He once wasn’t sure that he broke his leg until after a full week of walking two miles home from school every day and doing PE. When the doctor discovered multiple fracture sites and asked how he was able to tolerate the pain, Steven replied, “I just sucked it up until my foot stopped working.” He always finds a way to add humor in any situation and he never loses his cool.
I first met Jen in Miller in Seniorita Brenner’s class. She was probably one of the nicest and sweetest people that you will ever meet and quickly became one of my best friends. I remember taking a whole bunch of studio pictures and having so many notebooks with her back in the day. I still remember the day before I moved to Singapore, she showed up at my doorstep with a poster that she had made which contained pictures of all of our friends. This got me through my homesickness, because I would always look at this poster whenever I felt homesick. Now, I just look at it to laugh at how silly we use to look when we were young, and how she use to use to write everything with a ruler. Jen is one of the most thoughtful people that I have met. Jen loves a good deal, and once she finds one, she will do anything to get it. She is always willing to camp out and wait and long lines, and once she gets in, she will purchase MULTIPLES of the same item. She doesn’t do this just for the thrill of getting a good deal, but also because she is buying them for her friends as well. Who needs to bargain hunt when you have Jen?
I first met Andrew in Alhambra, Ca. At the time he was in an early relationship with my sister, Caroline. I thought to myself who was this confident guy rocking a cardigan with dashing good looks? Afterwards, my next trip to the mall included browsing for cardigans to wear for myself. Over the years it has been an absolute pleasure getting to know Andrew bonding over our shared interest in food, beer, wine, and whiskey. Andrew is one of the nicest and generous people that I know. He has a big heart and wise beyond his years. If you ever need a lesson on IPA beers or in need of a chess tutor, Andrew is your guy.
Unfortunately, Emily will be unable to attend the wedding due to family obligations. Even though she will not be able to physically attend, she is one of my best friends, and will be an honorary bridesmaid. We first met in Mr. Lee’s class. I guess I liked to talk, because Mr. Lee called me T1 (talker #1). One day, he decided to move me to the quiet part of the classroom, and placed me next to Emily. Big mistake. Little did Mr. Lee know, Emily and I clicked instantly and very quickly, I transformed her to T2 (talker #2). Emily is probably the most blunt friend that I have. I can always count on her to give it to me straight. I never have to worry that I look silly when I am with her, because if I am wearing something unflattering, she will straight up tell me,”That doesn’t look good on you. Try this shirt.” or “Here, wear my spanx under that.” I can also count on her to tell me what she truly thinks when I ask her for advice. She is like a big sister to me at times and has taught me to be a tougher person as well as how to stand up for myself. Like Jen Soong, she is also a piece of the foundation for our group of friends. Jen would gather us all together, and we would all hang out at Emily’s house. We have had many potlucks, game nights and late night talks at her house. How her family withstood all our shrieking and laughing into the wee hours of the night, I will never know.
