Tale As Old As Time
I wish I could say that it was love at first sight when I met Mike, but I seriously cannot recall the first time I met Mike. He claims that I met him on the first day of school when I moved back from Taiwan for junior year in high school, but I do not remember this. I remember him as the random guy that sat in front of me in AP Bio during our senior year, that would randomly eavesdrop and chuckle at the random things I was saying. Or the guy that would randomly turn around in class and move my textbook around as I was working on my Japanese homework and say, “Soooo….. Japanese huh….?” (………weirdo. Lol!) I suppose he had a crush on me, because we had a mutual friend that would name drop him randomly in our conversations. He would say things like, “The other day, the funniest thing happened with Mike and I.” I would always interrupt with a, “Who’s Mike?”, and he would always scold me by saying, “OMG! How many times do I have to tell you? The guy that sits in front of you in AP Bio!!!”. Then one day, before senior prom, our friend mentioned that Mike wanted to ask me. Again, I asked, “Who’s Mike?”, and it was followed with him exclaiming, “OMG! SERIOUSLY?!?!” Regardless of not really knowing who he was, I decided to go to prom with Mike, because I knew there was somebody else that was going to ask me, and I definitely did not want to go with him. When he asked me to prom, I remember he was so nervous that he ran away with the flowers. Upon arrival to his car, he realized that he still had the flowers and came running back with it as I stood there with my friends dumbfounded. After that, we got to know each other over lots of pho dates (reminder to self, don’t tell Mike what you like to eat, or else he will feed you the same thing over and over and over again). As unslick as he was/is, I guess he must have had some sort of swag, because now here we are.”
Our love began in the spring of 2004, just after 12th grade senior prom. But before we get to that, I had actually first met Regina in the beginning of fall semester of 11th grade. It was on the first day of school back from Summer break. Regina and her friend were looking for the end of the queue for student id photos but before I could offer her a spot in line she had already ran off. Throughout the last two years of highschool, I had admired her from afar. I noticed that she had a strong rapport of friends despite being away overseas for many years. I thought to myself, “Where has this girl been all my life, how does she know so many people at Lynbrook when she wasn’t even a freshman or sophomore here?”
Fast forward one year and with the help of my friend, Calvin, I was able to get an introduction and successfully asked Regina to prom. And the rest as you say is history. Through ups and downs, we managed to keep dating and grow our relationship until we finished school and moved back to South Bay.
“Here’s where she meets Prince Charming, but she won’t discover that it’s him ’til chapter three!”
